Our Story

Haven Home and Support Services is built on a legacy of care, compassion, and deep community understanding that spans generations. Our story begins in the 1990s with “Nan,” who founded Singleton House in Cairns—a place that provided accommodation, meals, and transport for Cape York and Torres Strait Islander communities travelling for essential hospital treatment. Her support went far beyond basic services; it was live-in, holistic care. Families stayed for extended periods, especially for treatments like dialysis long before it was available in community. Her commitment was unwavering—so much so that babies were even born in the front seat of her car as she ensured families received the care they needed.

Working alongside her was her beloved husband, “Poppy John,” whose dedication and partnership helped shape Singleton House into a place of trust, safety, and belonging. After his passing, our family made the difficult decision to close that chapter—but the values it was built on never left us.

Growing up in this environment gave our directors a unique and deeply personal understanding of what it truly means to support people—not just in practical ways, but emotionally, culturally, and holistically. These are the dynamics often overlooked, yet they are at the heart of everything we do.

In recent years, our family has continued to serve the community in new ways, including the establishment of our cleaning business three years ago. Through this work, we built a strong reputation for reliability, care, and genuinely understanding our clients’ needs. This reputation has led to us being sought out by providers to expand into broader support services, including in-home care and maintenance.

We are committed to delivering services that not only meet compliance standards and align with evolving aged care reforms, but are also grounded in cultural understanding, empathy, and respect.
